Advocacy
Overview
The Arc of Lehigh and Northampton Counties’ Advocacy Department provides free resource coordination, training, and one-to-one advocacy support to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Our department’s programs are based on four main pillars: Collaboration, Education, Empowerment, and Self-Advocacy. Through these, we are dedicated to connecting with and supporting individuals, families, and community partners in their navigation of the IDD system(s). This navigation is intended to engage with person-centered programs and supports that meet their specific needs, now and into the future.
Our department offers three main programs: Resource Coordination, One-to-One Advocacy, and Webinar Trainings. Our Resource Coordination program offers disability-related resources, referrals, and training to individuals, families, and professionals. Our One-to-One Advocacy program connects individuals and families with knowledgeable Arc Advocates to provide individual guidance to address complex challenges. Testimonials
“The advocacy services provided to my children through The Arc have been absolutely integral in both shaping and protecting their interests in their educational programs. Your advocates’ incredibly vast knowledge and unwavering support has been constant, from their elementary through secondary years, and our family is beyond grateful for their help and the Advocacy Program”.
“This wonderful organization has provided us with guidance, education and knowledge to advocate not only for the educational needs but going forward preparing for adulthood for our special needs child. She is learning through this organization how and why it is important to learn to self advocate. It is never too late to seek help/knowledge in advocating for a person and it truly does take a village to raise a child. We are so blessed to have found this organization and the GREAT workers who are always there to answers questions and offer advice. Truly a blessing!”
“The recommendation to contact The Arc about an education advocate for my daughter was one of the best pieces of advice I’ve received. Our advocate has been with us every step of the way to teach me about the process and my daughter’s rights. It allows me to rest easy knowing that I am doing all I can to ensure that my daughter gets the services she deserves and has the best future ahead of her.”
